Earl had a plantation in Shaw, Sunflower County, Mississippi, and was very successful.

At one time he had 31 black families living and working on his plantation. The main crops were cotton and pecans. He used to send huge bags of pecans to the Fred and Ruth Black family as Christmas gifts. He had his own cotton gin, and ran cotton brokerage businesses in Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. After he introduced mechanized cotton handling equipment, the number of black families living on the plantation dwindled to 5.

Earl was always good to the blacks, but they were paranoid about being cheated. Once, one of his men had earned enough to buy a car. Earl offered to help, but the man went to Memphis on his own. He bought a used car, and paid more for it than a new one would have cost him!

"Oscar G. Kaigler" from Georgetown, GA. is listed as a private in Company G, Eufaula Rifles, 2nd Alabama Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish American War. George Oscar would have been 23, the right age and he was from Georgetown, GA.

George Oscar Kaigler was prominent in politics in Georgia politics for many years.
